Programs and Services

1. Promote the use of the Uncommon Friends elementary educational curriculum - social studies, character education, history and science lessons.
 
2. Promote the history of SW Florida and encourage reading Jim Newton's book Uncommon Friends and Ellie Newton's Echoes from the Heart and I Always Wanted Adventure.
 
3. Provide scholarships to deserving individuals to help them meet their full potential and change their life for the better.
 
4. Market the award-winning documentary Uncommon Friends of the Twentieth Century.
 
5. Conduct the Annual Luncheon, open for any person to attend, that provides information, recognition and inspiration - including the presentation of the Honorary Lifetime Awards.
 
6. Preserve artifacts of Jim & Ellie Newton and schedule a traveling exhibit on the Uncommon Friends.
 
7. Promote an adult educational curriculum for high school and college students, "Principles for Successful Living", character education.
 
8. Community partnerships with the Edison Inventors Fair, Lee County Reading Festival, Habitat for Humanity, and South Florida Optimist Performing Arts Club Youth Theatre Awards program.
 
9. Expose youth and families to the story of the uncommon friends.
 
10. Provide informational programs and speakers for community groups.
 
11. Distribute tri-annual newsletter "Hello Friends."
 
12. Conduct an annual membership drive.

Vision Statements

Education Program
  To provide flexible educational programs that will inspire people of all ages and help them understand the common values and character traits of the uncommon friends.
   
Scholarship Program
  To provide a scholarship program to help meet the needs of individuals exhibiting the traits of the uncommon friends in developing their full potential.
   
Historical Exhibits
  To preserve historical artifacts and promote the contributions of the uncommon friends through exhibits.
   
Membership and Development
  To have a viable Foundation membership program and fund-raising efforts that will sufficiently support the programs and services of the Foundation.
   
Events and Activities
  To conduct dynamic events and activities that will provide the opportunity to participate with and support the Foundation.
   
Marketing and Public Relations
  To increase community awareness of the Uncommon Friends Foundation and its programs and services.
   
Finance and Budget
  To develop a comprehensive finance and fund-raising plan that will result in financial stability and provide for program growth.
   
Administration and Organization
 

To operate a successful Foundation that properly utilizes community resources (volunteers, partnerships, and financial) to meet its stated goals.
